Dr. Silverman grew up in Amarillo, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University, where he was a varsity football letterman and received Bachelors of Science degrees in Animal Science and Veterinary Science. He obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. After veterinary school, Dr. Silverman participated in equine exercise physiology research at the University of Sydney, Australia. He then was a clinical intern in Equine Medicine and Surgery at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand as a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar.
Dr. Silverman returned to Texas and practiced in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. He worked as an equine general practitioner, a small animal general practitioner and a small animal emergency veterinarian while attaining a Masters of Business Administration degree at the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business. He also founded a small animal general practice in Dallas. He later sold the practice in order to join the clinical faculty at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine as a visiting clinical instructor and clinical research assistant.
While at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Silverman completed an internship in Small Animal Surgery followed by a residency in Small Animal Surgery. He also finished a Masters of Science degree in Veterinary Clinical Science for which he received recognition as the Outstanding Graduate Student at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Following residency, Dr. Silverman practiced in San Antonio, Texas and was an adjunct clinical instructor at the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He also provided locum tenen and ambulatory surgical services in several cities in the southeast and southwest United States.
Dr. Silverman has trained and practiced in veterinary specialty surgery and referral centers since 2003 and has been performing small animal referral surgery in El Paso since 2008. Dr. Silverman founded Sun City Veterinary Surgery Center on El Paso’s Westside in 2015.
